Mais deux \u00e9coles s&#8217;affrontent sur les \u00ab effets \u00bb des m\u00e9dias : le courant critique de l&#8217;\u00e9cole de Francfort pour lequel il y a un caract\u00e8re uniformisant de la culture de masse ; et le courant empirique qui relativise la toute-puissance des m\u00e9dias en insistant sur l&#8217;influence interpersonnelle pour qu&#8217;un message soit accept\u00e9, le r\u00e9cepteur redevenant donc l\u00e0 \u00ab actif \u00bb dans la co-construction de la signification des messages. Nous proposerons une r\u00e9flexion sur les livres de Serge Tchakhotine, qui \u00e9tudie, d\u00e8s 1939, la propagande nazie dans \u00ab Le viol des foules par la propagande politique \u00bb et du Marquis de Custine, Les Lettres de Russie, La Russie en 1839, livre ayant la m\u00eame importance pour comprendre la Russie de Staline \u00e0 Poutine que pour La D\u00e9mocratie en Am\u00e9rique d&#8217;Alexis de Tocqueville pour les Etats-Unis.
